Do California Cities Have the Safest Drivers in the United States or Not?
Allstate insurance company recently issued a report on the cities with the safest and most dangerous drivers. The report, entitled “Allstate America’s Best Drivers Report,” was based on claims made to the insurer following traffic accidents in 2011 and 2012. Allstate only insures about 10 percent of insured drivers in the United States and the report focused only on claims from 200 of the larger cities in the country, but the information gathered was revealing.
The cities with the best drivers, according to Allstate
The safest cities for motorists include:
- Several cities in northern Colorado
- Madison, WI
- Boise, ID
- Tucson, AZ
- Brownsville, TX
- Sioux Falls, SD
The majority of these cities are inhabited by less than half a million people.
The cities with the most dangerous drivers, according to Allstate
As would be expected, the cities with the most dangerous drivers are major metropolitan areas, including Washington, D.C., New York, Philadelphia and Miami. The most dangerous city for California motorists was Glendale, but both Los Angeles and San Francisco also made the top 20.
What the report means for motor vehicle drivers and passengers in California
California is a crowded state, as any driver stuck in rush hour traffic on the freeway can attest. There are many factors that make driving more dangerous in San Francisco, San Jose, The Bay Area, and Silicon Valley.
- Stop-and-go traffic
- An abundance of highways and freeways where motorists travel at high speeds
- Sun glare and rainstorms
- The presence of public transportation and emergency response vehicles on the roadways
- Large trucks making interstate deliveries
- Road construction zones
Motor vehicle accidents can cause debilitating injuries and even death. If you or someone you know was hurt in a car crash, it is best to consult with a knowledgeable and understanding California car accident attorney to learn about your legal options.
